Lakefront Property
Searching for lakefront property can be a lot of fun. There is something special about lakefront property and that may be why lake houses are highly desirable by many people. Lake houses are a great investment. Since the amount of lakefront property is limited, lake houses hold their value and often appreciate. There is also a wide variety of lakefront property to choose from. Depending on where you live, you can choose from large lakes, such as Lake Michigan, Lake Havasu or Lake Tahoe, to medium sized lakes to smaller and even private lakes. Other waterfront property includes oceanfront property if you live near the coasts. Oceanfront property is highly desirable as well and can make for a great place to live or a great investment property if you decide to rent out the beach house. Lakefront property offers people a lifetime of fun and activities. Lakes are great for fishing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, swimming, ice-skating, snowmobiling, boating, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, sun bathing, and enjoying nature and sunsets. When you begin your search for lakefront property one thing to keep in mind is the amount of lake frontage. Frontage is measured in feet and it is the amount of shoreline your lake house property has on the lake. Frontage is important for several reasons. Lake property is usually valued by the amount of frontage it has in relation to the lakeshore. One can calculate the cost per frontage foot by dividing the value of the lakefront property by the number of feet or frontage. It is also possible that you can buy property near a lake, perhaps across the street from the lake or down the street from the lake. This is not considered lakefront property, but many times this property will have deeded access to the lake. Many times the deeded access to the lake will be a strip of land on a neighboring lakefront property where one can install a dock and use the lake. This can allow someone who may not be able to afford lakefront property or find the right house on a lake but still be able to use the lake. Another thing to keep in mind when buying lakefront property is the view. If you are interested in watching the sunsets from your dock or patio you want to make sure you have a view to the west. Search for lakefront property on the East or North shorelines so you can watch the sunsets. The view over the lake onto the West shore will give you the best chances to enjoy the sunsets from your lakehouse.
